Undefeated World Boxing Organization (WBO) featherweight champion Mikey Garcia (31-0, 26 KOs) of Oxnard, Calif., will host his first public sparring session and open workout as world champion, today, June 1, beginning at 11:00 a.m. PT, at the UFC Gym (23701 La Palma Ave., Yorba Linda, Calif. 92887-5538). Garcia is in his last two weeks of training for his first title defense, against former WBO junior featherweight and WBO featherweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez (33-2, 30 KOs), of Caguas, Puerto Rico. Joining Mikey at his open workout will be his brother, Robert, the former International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior lightweight champion and 2012 Trainer of the Year, and his father Eduardo, who co-train Mikey.
The Garcia-Lopez world featherweight title fight will take place on June 15 and will be televised live from the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, on HBO. This will be the first time HBO has televised a boxing event from the American Airlines Center. The Garcia-Lopez world championship event will be promoted by Top Rank, in association with PR Best Boxing, Foreman Boys Promotions and Tecate.
