Tony Rila passes

More sad news to report as we’ve learned that Las Vegas businessman and friend to boxing Tony Rila passed away last night in his sleep at the age of 66. Tony was the owner of the state of the art IBA Gym where the biggest names in boxing trained for their Vegas megafights. The gym was actually located in Tony’s backyard and Oscar de la Hoya, the Klitschkos, Manny Pacquiao, Shane Mosley and Ricky Hatton are just a few of the elite fighters who trained there. Tony loved the sport of boxing and was well known as a collector of pugilistic memorabilia. He was also an avid poker player.

For 18 years, Fightnews.com® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
