Top Rank Boxing has signed a multiyear promotional contract with WBA featherweight champion Nicholas “The Axe Man” Walters of Jamaica. Walters (22-0, 18 KOs) won the vacant WBA title last year in December stopping Daulis Prescott of Colombia. Top Rank Chairman Bob Arum had this to say about the agreement, “I watched some footage of Walters and I really liked what I saw. He is a good puncher, makes a good fight and we can put him in with any of the big name featherweights out there and HBO will buy it.”
For his part, the WBA champion said that fighting for Top Rank is “a dream and a privilege.” Walters will be making his US debut and first title defense on the Top Rank card in Corpus Christi, Texas which will feature the junior lightweight championship bout between Roman “Rocky” Martinez and Miguel Angel “Mikey” Garcia, Orlando Salido and Orlando Cruz for the vacant WBO featherweight championship, and U.S. Olympians Vanes Martirosyan and Demetrius Andrade for the vacant WBO junior middleweight title.
