Torres honored in Chicago!

World Extreme Cagefighting® bantamweight champion Miguel Angel Torres will be honored for his third consecutive title defense by the Chicago White Sox during the team’s game against divisional rival Detroit on Wednesday, May 6 at 7:11PM CT. Torres, a native of nearby East Chicago, IN, will be on hand tothrow out the game’s ceremonial first pitch.

Fresh off a unanimous decision win over Japanese striker Takeya Mizugaki on April 5 at the UIC Pavilion, Torres is thrilled that the White Sox recognized his accomplishments. “The support that I receive in my hometown is phenomenal,” Torres, who improved to 36-1 with the win over Mizugaki, said. “The White Sox are a championship organization and I am looking forward to watching them contend for another World Series title this season.”

For 18 years, Fightnews.com® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
