This weekend’s rematch between WBC female super flyweight champion Ana Maria Torres and WBC interim female super bantamweight beltholder Jackie Nava in Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapas, Mexico, will be for a WBC Diamond Belt. The winner will be part of an exclusive club that thus far includes only Manny Pacquiao and Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez, as well as being the only female diamond beltholder. Torres-Nava I ended in a ten round draw.
The card will be promoted by Zanfer Boxing and HG Boxing. While Zanfer has had a banner year in 2011 promoting men’s boxing, HG Boxing, headed by Hector Garcia, has focused mostly on the women’s side. Current champions include Hugo “Cuatito” Ruiz (WBA interim bantamweight) and six female world titleholders including Ana Maria Torres (WBC super flyweight), Arely Muciño (IBF flyweight), Irma “Guerita” Sanchez ( WBF flyweight), Yessica “Kika” Chavez (IBF light flyweight), Katia Gutierrez (IBF miniumweight) and Kaliesha West (WBO bantamweight).
HG Boxing is planning to end 2011 with 30 world championship fights. To date, they have staged 17 world title fights this year including four female world title bouts on the same event.
