Tupou defeats Lakopo in Aussie return

American-based Tongan heavyweight Bowie Tupou (23-3, 16 KOs) outpointed Junior Maletino Lakopo (1-10-2) over six rounds at Jupiters Casino, Broadbeach, Queensland, Australia on Friday. Scores were Steve Marshall 59-55, Tony Kettlewell 58-56, Allan Burford 58-56. Tupou has been based in Los Angeles since 2007 and holds wins over Donnelly Holmes and Manuel Quezada in 2011 but lost to Bryant Jennings and Malik Scott in 2012. Tupou who fought his first nine bouts Down Under, is scheduled to fight next on April 14 at the Melbourne Pavillion.

Middleweight Paul Tapley (13-10-1, 5 KOs) stopped Justin Hohaia (1-4) at the conclusion of round six of scheduled eight to capture the Queensland state title

Heavyweight Joe Lloyd (4-6, 4 KOs) stopped Luke Barclay (1-1) in round one when referee Steve Marshall crowned Lloyd at 1.54.

Light middleweight Rock Jaikom (1-0) outscored Byrone Vince (1-5, 1 KO) over four rounds by scores of 40-36, 39-37, 40-36.
