Two big cards in Delaware in August

By Rick Scharmberg

Premier matchmaker Nick Tiberi is busy putting together two shows set for August in the Diamond State. First up, on Friday, August 2, “The New” Ray Robinson (15-2, 6 KOs) will battle twelve rounds against Ray “The Emperor” Nahr (26-2, 21 KOs) for the vacant USBA welterweight title at the Bob Carpenter Center on the University of Delaware campus in Newark, Delaware. Robinson is riding a four bout winning streak, while Nahr is coming off a nationally televised, career-reviving win over Ronald Cruz. In the co-feature, WBA #9-ranked Dorin Spivey (42-6, 30 KOs) will put his NABA lightweight title on the line against an opponent to be announced shortly. The promoter is George Beers.

On Friday, August 23, at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino in Dover, Delaware, big-punching Amir “Hardcore” Mansour (18-0, 14 KOs) returns against veteran Maurice “Mo’ Bettah” Harris (26-17-2) in a twelve round contest for the vacant USBA heavyweight title. Harris, a former USBA titleholder, is coming off a nice win over Jason Bergman, while Mansour is trying to regain his world-ranking, which he never lost in the ring. Edgar “El Chamaco” Santana (27-4, 18 KOs) will top the under card in a ten round light welterweight bout against an opponent to be named. As always, Dover Downs Hotel & Casino is doing its own promoting.

More information about both cards will be announced as it becomes available.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
