The WBA has ruled that current flyweight world champion Hernan “Tyson” Marquez cannot make optional defense against Filipino challenger Ardin Diale scheduled for June 23 in the CUM of Hermosillo, but instead his next fight must against WBA interim flyweight titleholder and mandatory challenger Juan Carlos Reveco. The June 23 fight card will go on as scheduled with Juan Francisco “Gallo” Estrada (21-1, 16 KOs) replacing Marquez against Diale.
At a press conference in Hermosillo, Zanfer Chief Operating Officer Gullermo Brito and “Tyson” Marquez explained that WBA President Gilberto Mendoza issued a letter informing them that from May 16 to June 16 the camps of Marquez and Reveco are to negotiate a fight agreement. If no deal is reached by June 16, the fight would go to purse bid.
Marquez (33-2, 26 KOs) said he was a little surprised and sad that the June 23 in Hermosillo wasn’t allowed. “I was training very hard, and in the final stages of my preparation for a big show for the fans in Hermosillo, but I won’t talk. We’ll comply with the regulations and we will face Reveco. I hope that my promoter gets the fight in Mexico or the United States, we do not want to go to Argentina…I had a hard time winning the world title and losing it on a desktop is not just for me. I know the fans will support me when I face Reveco in July or August, hopefully in Hermosillo.”
