The WBA has confirmed that Hernan “Tyson” Marquez will remain the WBA regular flyweight world champion after his decision not to leave the division. Marquez received special permission from the WBA Championships Committee to fight a ten-round non-title super flyweight bout last Saturday against Fernando Lucamad. Marquez is now aiming to unify with WBO flyweight champion Brian Viloria in September. Marquez also owes a mandatory fight to WBA interim flyweight champion Juan Carlos Reveco.
Meanwhile, the WBA has received featherweight world champion Celestino “Pelenchín” Caballero’s request for reconsideration by the WBA Championship Committee regarding the troubled situation involving the mandatory fight with Mikey Garcia. The Committee will have ten working days from Monday (July 16) to announce its ruling.
