The WBO attended the inaugural Tianjin International Boxing Exhibition Games, the opening event of the WBO World Boxing Center in Tianjin, China on December 3-5. The Tianjin International Professional Boxing Tournament special guest was Hall of Fame Heavyweight Champion Mike Tyson. Representing the WBO were WBO International Commissioner John Duggan, WBO Asia Pacific Executive Director Leon Panoncillo, WBO World Counsel Andrew Horn, and Officials Joe Cortez, John Stewart and Ana Fournaris.
The WBO World Boxing Center is the initiative of the Tianjin Municipal Government, Peking University, Tianjin International Sports Promotion Co., Ltd, the China Professional Boxing Organization and the WBO World Boxing Center Working Group.
As already reported here on Fightnews.com, three days of boxing featured Australian Kariz Kariuki’s unanimous decision for the WBO Oriental light heavyweight title over Randy Griffin and Jiang’s Hang’s second round TKO victory for the WBO China Zone Heavyweight Championship. And Ma Yi Ming won the WBO China Zone flyweight title with a unanimous decision over Mating Lilakil of the Philippines.
John Duggan and NY Boxing Commissioner Melvina Lathan delivered keynote addressed at the Peking University College of Sports and Culture inaugural conference on Professional Boxing.
