Uchiyama keeps OPBF belt!

By Joe Koizumi

It was a deluxe night featuring five title bouts at the Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan, on Saturday. WBC#6/WBA#9 Takashi Uchiyama (12-0, 9 KOs), 129.75, kept his OPBF 130-pound belt as he lopsidedly battered #5 Thong Por Chokchai (21-7-1, 14 KOs), 129.5, and finally halted the Thailander at 1:05 of the fifth round. WBA#5/WBC#12 Kohei Kono (23-4, 8 KOs), 115, acquired the vacant OPBF super-fly belt as he scored a unanimous decision (116-112 twice and 115-113) over OPBF#1 Filipino champ Daniel Ferreras (8-3-1, 3 KOs), 114.5, over twelve. WBC#20 Masafumi Ohkubo (15-2-1, 4 KOs), 112, retained his OPBF flyweight belt by a TKO win over Thai national champ Yuchi Carryboy (20-11, 14 KOs), 112, at 2:36 of the seventh session. WBC female light-fly champ Naomi Togashi (6-0, 4 KOs), 107.75, barely kept her throne by earning a tough but unanimous decision (96-94, 96-93 and 97-92) over OA Kokietgym (7-3, 2 KOs), 107.75, over ten. WBC female 102-pound ruler Momo Koseki (8-2, 2 KOs), 101.5, won a nearly shutout decision (100-90, 100-92 and 99-91) over WBC perennial top contender, 39-year-old compatriot Nao Ikeyama (11-2-1, 4 KOs), 101.5, over ten. For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
