Universum Box-Promotion would like to put right the recent statements of WBO super welterweight world champion Sergei Dzinziruk and to put the facts into proper perspective.
Dietmar Poszwa, Universum Management: “There was a court case between Universum and Sergei Dzinziruk, which examined in the validity of his contract. The court ruled in favor of Universum. Contrary to reports, Sergei is not a free agent. According to a November 13, 2009 decision by the district court of Hamburg, he remains contractually bound exclusively to Universum. Universum rejects Dzinziruk’s assertion that Universum is reponsible for the non-realization of fights against Paul Williams and James Kirkland. Those fights failed due to lack of interest from U.S. TV and the high purse demands of Dzinziruk.
“We would like to point to the fact that in reaction to the court order, Sergei Dzinziruk has indicated a desire to buy out his contract with Universum once he has received an offer from a different promoter. We have agreed to this. If Sergei Dzinziruk pays this money, he is free. Obviously there is still no offer.”
