Upset: Vikingo Terrazas hammers three-division champion Fernando Montiel for WBC silver belt

In a major upset, super bantamweight Victor “Vikingo” Terrazas (31-2-1, 18 KOs) battered former three division world champion Fernando “Kochulito” Montiel (46-3-2, 36 KOs) in a clash for the vacant WBC Silver super bantamweight crown on Saturday night at the Estadio de Centenario in Los Mochis, Sinaola, Mexico. The naturally larger Terrazas pressured Montiel the whole fight and dropped him with a right hand in round five. The bout got even more one sided after that with Terrazas badly busing up Montiel’s face. Montiel showed his champion’s with a late rally, but it was Terrazas taking a twelve round unanimous decision in Montiel’s hometown. Scores were 115-112, 115-113 and 114-113.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
