USA Olympian and undefeated professional boxer Jose Ramirez (13-0, 10 KO’s) will return home to defend his NABF Jr title in the “Fight For Water 4,” Saturday, May 9 at the Selland Arena. The card will be televised nationally at 11p ET/PT on Top Rank’s “Solo Boxeo Tecate” on UniMas. Ramirez last fought Oct 25th in his hometown, where a record-setting 10,000 people watched him capture his first title.
“There is no place like home, and I’m ready. It’s an honor to fight in front of my friends, family and community. Nothing is more important than fighting for water,” said Ramirez of defending his belt in Fresno.
The “Fight For Water” series was developed to help bring much-needed attention to the water issues in California. The overall goal of this installment is the same as the previous three: to focus attention on bringing water back to the Central Valley.
“With the successful passage of the water bond this past November, the California Latino Water Coalition thanks everyone that helped in the cause, along with all those who participated in our ‘Fight for Water’ boxing events,” said Executive Director Mario Santoyo. “However, the fight is far from over. Now, with ‘Fight for Water 4,’ our sights are set on getting back the valley’s water from the delta and through the pumps.”
Bob Arum, Hall of Fame promoter and founder of Top Rank, said: “We are very proud of Jose for what he has accomplished in the ring and, just as important, the way he has helped his community. He is a very special athlete, a future world champion. We are very excited to return to Fresno on May 9.”
Also featured on the card: Central Valley-based, Top Rank-promoted fighters Daniel Valdivia and Joe Lopez, as well as regional fighter Kilisto Madera and Alex Rojas, who will be making his pro debut.
