V.I. boxers invade Mexico

The Virgin Islands’ three professional boxers, John Jackson, Julius Jackson and Samuel Rogers, have traveled to Mexico for against local Mexican boxers. The weigh-in was on Thursday, with John Jackson weighing in at 153 lbs. His opponent, Alvaro Ayala of Mavojoa Senora, Mexico weighing in at 156 lbs. Julius Jackson weighed at 163 lbs with his opponent, Noe Flores of Los Mochis, Mexico weighing in at 165 lbs. Samuel Rogers weighed in at 153 lbs. with his opponent, Carlos Maldonado of Hermosillo, Mexico weighing in at 154 lbs. These bouts will be televised nationally in Mexico and the US on Azteca America tonight at 8:30pm.

This is the first time, John, Julius and Samuel has fought on the same boxing card together outside the Territory. Their journey to Guaymas , Mexico began on Tuesday with an all-day travel from St. Thomas to Miami , Miami to Mexico City ,  Mexico City to Hermosillo  and then ended with a two hour drive in the late hours to Guaymas. The VI boxing delegation participated in a press conference on Wednesday. 

Even though they are fighting against homegrown Mexican boxers, they have been well received and supported in Guaymas , Mexico where the fights are to take place with their posters posted throughout the town.
John, Julius and Samuel are promoted by 340 Boxing.
