Valero returns Saturday

By Gabriel F. Cordero

Spectacular WBC lightweight world champion Edwin Valero (25-0, 25 KOs) is set in his homeland for the first time in nearly four years when he takes on Héctor Velázquez (51-13-2, 35 KOs) at the Polideportivo Jose Maria Vargas in La Guaira, Caracas, Venezuela. It will be Valero’s first defense of the WBC belt. There will also be two twelve-rounders in the super bantamweight division as Alexander Espinoza (9-2, 8 KOs) faces little known Breilor Terán for the Fecarbox belt and Oscar Chacín (13-9, 11 KOs) meets Franklin Valera (17-4, 9 KOs) for a Latino belt.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
