WBA #14 junior flyweight contender and former world champion Manuel ‘Chango’ Vargas (28-5-1, 13 KOs) won when WBC #8 Michael Arango (30-9-3, 24 KOs) could not come out for round six in a flyweight bout on Saturday night in the main event of the Tecate Boxing Tour’s stop in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico. The card took place in a special arena that was built outside of the Hector Espino baseball stadium.

In the co-feature, unbeaten bantamweight prospect Juan ‘Gallito’ Estrada (14-0, 12 KOs) impressively stopped former national Mexican champion Carlos Rodriguez (16-8-3, 5 KOs) in round two. Time was 2:52.

Unbeaten jr featherweight prospect Roberto Marroquin (15-0, 12 KOs) scored a TKO over Jesus Quintero (8-5-2, 4 KOs) at 1:40 of round three. Marroquin, from Dallas, trained for weeks with trainer Freddie Roach at the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, California before the fight.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
