Vargas to attend FPU

The student body for Fight Promoter University VI just got a little more interesting as former world super welterweight champion Fernando Vargas along with two associates enrolled for the August 13-16 session of Fight Promoter University, it was announced today by FPU founder Roy Englebrecht. “I have talked to Fernando several times over the past 10 months, and he really wants to become a successful fight promoter,” said Englebrecht. Vargas joins a FPU VI group that also sees future promoters coming from as far as Japan and Austria, along with a number of states. FPU VI commences at the Irvine Marriott on the afternoon of Thursday, August 13th, with graduation the afternoon of Sunday, August 16th. There are still a few openings. Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
