WBA interim super featherweight Bryan Vasquez (28-0, 14 KOs) defended his belt with an ninth round TKO over veteran Jorge Lacierva (41-8-6, 27 KOs) on Saturday night at the Auditorio Muncipal in Tijuana, Mexico. In round nine, Vasquez landed a shot to the liver that sent Lacierva to the canvas for the count of 8. He beat the count, but more hard Vasquez punches decked him again and female referee Romina Arroyo halted the fight.
In a thrilling rematch of between the sons of Mexican legends, Jorge Paez Jr. (32-4-1, 19 KOs) won a unanimous decision over Omar Chavez (28-2-1, 21 KOs). All the three judges scoed it 96-94 for Paez Jr. Both Jorge Paez and Julio Cesar Chavez were present in the corners of their sons.
