WBO junior featherweight champion Wilfredo Vázquez, Jr. of Puerto Rico (18-0-1, 15 KOs) is about a week from his first title defense on May 29 against unbeaten Universum-promoted Zsolt Bedak (15-0, 5 KOs) of Hungary. Vázquez, Jr. showed his appreciation to his native Puerto Ricans as he hit the streets on Thursday by way of caravan and foot to greet and meet as many people as he could. This is very rare and uncommon for a world champion to do something like this, especially so close to a big fight.
“I’m honored and appreciative for this opportunity to be up close with my people. I feel that this is part of my job and it’s my pleasure,” said Vázquez Jr.
The co-feature on May 29 will have WBO super featherweight champion Román ‘Rocky’ Martínez (23-0-1, 14 KOs) of Puerto Rico defending against Gonzalo Munguía (17-6-3, 13 KOs) of Nicaragua.
