According to the Tijuana Boxing Commission, Saturday, September 29th has been set aside by Zanfer Promotions to stage a twelve round championship bout between champion Miguel “Titere” Vazquez (31-3, 13 KOs) and hard hitting southpaw and #1 contender Marvin “Cachorro” Quintero (25-3, 21KOs) at the Municipal Auditorium in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico.
Quintero of Tijuana, Mexico, by way of Culiacan, Sinaloa, won the right to face Vazquez by stopping Filipino Al Sabaupan in nine rounds last April. Quintero is trained by Romulo Quirarte and is gym mate and occasional chief sparring partner of WBC lightweight title holder Antonio DeMarco.
Guadalajara, Jalisco’s Vazquez last defense was in early 2012 when he defeated Ammeth Diaz via unanimous decision. In his last bout last June, Vazquez won a ten round decision over Daniel Attah.
It was mentioned that undefeated lightweight contender Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta (26-0-1, 14KOs) was next in line to face Vazquez on the under card of a proposed Mexico vs. Philippines event topped off by Manny Pacquiao facing Juan Manuel Marquez for the fourth time. Since Pacquiao as of yet not announced his next partner, looks like the world-rated Gesta will be sitting on the side lines for the moment waiting for his next opponent.
