“Veneno” Rubio closes Oxnard training camp

By Gabriel F. Cordero

Mexican middleweight Marco Antonio “Veneno” Rubio (57-6-1, 49 KOs) has wrapped up his preparations with trainer Robert Garcia in Oxnard, California, and will head to Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico, for his fight next Saturday at the Palenque de la Feria. Rubio will face Colombian Dionisio “Mr. Knockout” Miranda (22-8-2, 19 KOs) with a world title shot on the line. With a victory, “Veneno” will have the opportunity for a rematch with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. for the interim WBC middleweight world title. Chavez must also win his September 7 clash against Brian Vera in Los Angeles.

Also training with Rubio in Oxnard was middleweight Marcos “Dorado” Reyes (27-1, 22 KOs), who is looking to avenge his 2010 defeat against Argentinian Amilcar Funes (22-12, 17 KOs) on the same card.

The night will also feature Yessica “Kika” Chavez (18-3-2, 4 KOs) defending her WBC female silver light flyweight belt against Tsunami Tenkai (18-7, 7 KOs).

The event presented by Promociones del Pueblo and broadcast on Televisa and TDN.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
