Veneno Rubio in Oxnard with trainer Robert Garcia

By Gabriel F. Cordero

WBC #1 middleweight Marco Antonio “Veneno” Rubio is already working with trainer Robert Garcia at Garcia’s famed gym in Oxnard, California, in preparation for his third WBC world middleweight challenge. This time the fight is for the vacant interim belt against #2 rated Domenico “Vulcano” Spada to be held on April 5 at a venue to be confirmed in Mexico. The card will be promoted by Promociones del Pueblo.

“I will do everything to win the world title,” said Rubio. “I miss my wife and my daughters a lot, but this is a sacrifice I also do for them. We are already training at one hundred percent. Robert says he’s seen a few videos of my opponent and we’ll review them together to formulate our strategy. Spada is a very fast and very technical fighter, I guess he had a long career as an amateur. He’s the current silver champion, only has a couple of defeats and has never been knocked out. We have a complicated, but not impossible mission and we are planning a knockout to win the title.”
