Former South African junior heavyweight champion Danie Venter has his second fight on the road back after being stopped in five rounds by Thabiso Mchunu in the final of the Super Eight Series in November last year when he meets Elvis Moyo at the Pretoria North City Hall on Saturday night. Venter a former Olympian and Commonwealth Games bronze medallist joined the professional ranks in 2003 but he has never reached the heights that he did in his long and illustrious amateur career. The Moyo vs Venter fights will be in the heavyweight division and is scheduled for six rounds.
This is a must win for Venter who has a record of 15-6; 11 as he is scheduled to fight for the vacant WBF International heavyweight title on September 21 in Pretoria against Sean Cox from Barbados.
The South African based Zimbabwean Moyo who has a reported record 3-4-2; 1 is a better fighter than his record suggests.
In his most recent fight in March this year he fought to a draw with former South African heavyweight champion Osborne Machimana. Many at ringside were of the opinion that he should have got the decision.
The box-and-dine tournament is presented by Peter de Wet, Anton de Haas and Andre Thysse the former South African and Commonwealth super middleweight champion who are partners in the recently formed of Real Steel Promotions.
