Verdejo back in action Saturday

Hot sensation Felix “Diamante” Verdejo will fight for his first time in a six round bout this Saturday, May 18 in another installment of UniMas Solo Boxeo Tecate, to be held at the Ruben Zayas Montanez Coliseum in Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico, in a PR Best Boxing Promotions (PRBBP) presentation in association with Top Rank.

“We are back in Trujillo Alto, where we had a great show in March with Felix Verdejo in one of the main fights. Now, we have Verdejo in his first six rounds fight, and a card with good fights as the Gamalier Rodriguez vs Alicio Castaneda clash for the WBO NABO featherweight title, and other prospects like unbeaten John Karl Sosa in action”, said the PRBBP President, Ivan Rivera. “On March 23 was a successful show and we expecting a great fan support again.”

In the co-main fight, 2012 Olympian, Diamante Verdejo (5-0, 4 KOs), will face more experienced Corben Page (4-5-1) in a six rounds and junior lightweight bout. Verdejo come off a first round KO win on April 13 in New York over Steve Gutierrez. On March 23 in Trujillo Alto, Verdejo beat Martin Quezada by TKO in two rounds.

“I want you to know that I’m working hard every day to look better and bring happiness to my country”, said Verdejo. I’m back in Trujillo Alto and again I expect the support of all the fans in this, my first fight at six rounds.”

The main event of the evening will present in a 10 round fight and for the WBO NABO featherweight belt, Gamalier Rodriguez (20-2-3, 14 KOs), from Bayamon, Puerto Rico, facing Texan Alicio Castaneda (15-1, 6 KOs), in the junior lightweight division. Both fighters made their last fights in December, 2012. Rodriguez surprised on March 10, 2012 with an unanimous decision victory over Filipino prospect Allan Tanada.

“For this fight there are no excuses. They notified me with time and I’m training sepecifically for this fight since two months ago, not as for other fights”, said Rodriguez. “I’m ready and this Saturday, May 18, I will be the new NABO champion, then world champion.”

In scheduled to six rounds fights, prospect John Karl Sosa (6-0, 4 KOs), from Caguas, will face Tommy Bryant (3-8-3, 1 KOs) in 143 pounds, and undefeated Levan Ghvamicheva (9-0, 7 KOs) will face Samuel “Sammito” Santana (5-8-2) in 147 pounds.

Scheduled to four rounds, Trujillo Alto native Bernard “Bimbo” Lebron (1-0, 1 KOs), won in a spectacular first round KO on March 23, will face Osvaldo Vazquez (0-1) in 140 pounds; Fauris Capellan (5-1, 4 KOs) will fight against Jonathan Garcia (3-5, 1 KOs) in 135 pound; and Emmanuel Santos (1-0) will face debutant Juan Carlos Pantoja, and Jaxel Marrero will fight against debutant Bryan Resto.
