Virgen takes on Ruvalcaba

Preview by Felipe Leon

Tonight at the “Tigre” Garcia Gymnasium in the port city of Ensenada, Mexico, local favorite Juan Carlos Virgen (16-0-1, 11 KOs) will put his perfect record as well as his WBC FECARBOX middleweight title versus hard hitting grizzled veteran Rito Ruvalcaba (33-10, 29 KOs) of Tijuana in a 12-round bout.

Ruvalcaba will be Virgen’s most experienced opponent to date with the Tijuana native holding various regional straps such as the Mexican national, FECARBOX and Latino titles and has faced the likes of Luis Ramon “Yory Boy” Campas, Lionel Ortiz, Luis Carmona, Chris Sande, WIlliam Joppy, Eric Regan, Epifanio Mendoza and Sergio Mora among others in his extensive career.

Also featured on the fight card presented by Antonio Lozada’s Baja Boxing, up and coming KO artist Mario “Rocky” Meraz (11-01 11KOs) takes on Guillermo “Durango” Garcia (7-2, 2KOs) in a super welterweight ten round scrap in a classic brawler versus stylist match up.

Seven more fights flesh out the night including appearances of Roman Villalejos (1-0, 1KO), Miguel Angel “Kanibal” Garcia (2-0, 1KOs), Willie “Tiburon” Solis (1-0, 1KO) in separate bouts and the debuts of Eduardo “Puas” Diaz at super lightweight and Jesus Alejandro Juarez in bantamweight.

Tickets are available at the “Tigre” Garcia Gymnasium located in the heart of Ensenada, MX.

For 18 years, Fightnews.com® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
