WBC Heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko arrived during Day Two of the WBC Night of Champions event in Cardiff, Wales, which was capped off with a twelve bout amateur tournament dubbed “Great Britain vs. The Rest of the World.” Again the Cardiff International Arena hosted a packed house filled with invited champions, VIP guests and family and friends of the U.K. Fighters. Designed as a launching pad for team Great Britain to gain momentum in international competition on the road to the London 2012 Olympic Summer Games, opponents included fighters from Sweden, China, USA, and Ireland.
In the end, the tournament ended in a 6-6 tie. Both the U.K. Team and the “Rest of the World” received a trophy from Vitali. Following the tournament, a cocktail and dinner reception was again held in the Blue Room at the CIA.
The twelve scheduled bouts included three female bouts which were contested over four two-minute rounds, while the men’s bouts were scheduled for three three-minute rounds.
