WBA #9 heavyweight contender Travis “My Time” Kauffman (28-1, 20 KOs) captured the WBA Fedelatin title at the Sands Casino in Bethlehem, PA with a laborious one-sided ten round unanimous decision victory over Vincent Thompson on Saturday night. Travis targeted the body and landed several hard shots up top, but Thompson fought in survival mode with small combinations and clinching throughout which led to a less than exciting fight. All three judges had it heavily in favor of Travis Kauffman by scores of 98-92 and 100-90 x 2 for the unanimous decision victory.
In the other fight of interest on the card, former top rated US amateur and rising bantamweight sensation Miguel “No fear” Cartagena upped his record to 11-0, 4 KOs with a dominant sixth round stoppage of tough veteran Felipe Rivas (15-16-2, 9 KOs). Cartagena had Rivas heavily behind and withering as sixth round came to a close. In Rivas’s corner, the ringside physician saw what appeared to be a fractured bone in his wrist and called for the fight to be stopped. Rivas and his corner complained profusely about the stoppage. The official time of the TKO was three minutes of the sixth round.
