Walter Smith passes

Legendary cornerman Walter Smith has passed away at the age of 94 in Detroit. Smith worked at the Kronk Gym with Hall of Fame trainer Emanuel Steward and helped train former world champions Thomas Hearns and Hilmer Kenty among others. Smith was a teammate of Joe Louis in the 1930s. “For those of you who knew Walter Smith…we have lost a giant in the boxing world,” wrote former state boxing commissioner Dr. Stuart Kirschenbaum in an email to Fightnews.com.
