Unbeaten WBA featherweight champion Nicholas Walters (22-0, 18 KOs) and challenger Alberto Garza (25-5-1, 20 KOs) squared off at Corpus Christi International Airport upon their arrival in Corpus Christi Sunday night for their battle on Saturday at The American Bank Center here. Walters, of Montego Bay, Jamaica, arrived with his team of trainer Celso Chavez, coordinator Patrick Buteau, and father Job Walters. Garza’s team consists of Victor Alfaro, Jesus Garza, and Hector Garcia. Garza hails from Mexico City. The Walters-Garza world title bout will be televised on Top Rank’s international telecast.
The two are a part of a triple championship night of boxing. HBO will televise undefeated Miguel Angel Garcia (32-0, 27 KOs) battling Puerto Rican favorite Roman Martinez (27-1-2, 16 KOs) for the WBO super featherweight title and Vanes Martirosyan (33-0-1, 21 KOs) taking on Demetrius Andrade (19-0, 13 KOs) for the vacant WBO light middleweight championship. Also Nonito Donaire (31-2, 20 KOs) will return to the ring against Vic Darchinyan (39-5-1, 28 KOs) in a ten round feature bout.
