Ryan “The Irish Outlaw” Coyne (21-0, 9 KOs) has issued a statement on the cut that forced him of of a March 9 WBA light heavyweight elimination against Marcus Oliveira (24-0-1, 19 KOs) in Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. On his Facebook page, Coyne posted “I sustained a horrendous cut sparring with Yusef Mack here in Philly that required 20 stitches and with less than 3 1/2 weeks till the fight, proper preparation for a bout of this caliber will be impossible. I’ve never pulled (myself) out of a fight with an injury, but I have to be in position to win going into a big time bout as such. It’s been over 4 years since I’ve had a cut and this one comes at the worst of times. These things happen in the fight game, but the last few months of this business have been absolutely brutal. All I can say is I apologize for this latest setback and somehow someway I will break this hard luck streak.”
