The WBA World Championships Committee reported Thursday that it has voted against giving permission to WBA cruiserweight world champion Guillermo Jones to fight in a non-title ten-rounder. The camp of WBA interim champion Denis Lebedev expressed dissatisfaction with Jones taking another fight and citing Lebedev’s mandatory challenger status asked for an direct fight between them. The situation was analyzed by the Championships Committee, which issued a resolution for Jones and Lebedev to begin negotiations immediately with a deadline of June 29. If no agreement is reached, the WBA will call a purse bid. Jones won his world title in September 2008 and since then has only made two mandatory defenses with his last being in October 2010. Lebedev became interim champion November 4, 2011, when he beat James Toney.
