WBA: Vegas is the pinnacle

By Gabriel F. Cordero

The WBA is thrilled to have representation from so many WBA champions, both former and current on tonight’s big Las Vegas pay-per-view-card. Juan Manuel Marquez, Juan Diaz, Joel Casamayor and Jorge Linares have worn the WBA belt at some point in their careers. “Las Vegas is considered the top setting for a boxing spectacle and signifies an arrival at the highest level of the sport for any boxer,” said Gilberto Mendoza Jr., executive vice president of the WBA. “Fighting in Las Vegas is seen around the world beyond a sports career. You can become a star and be able to generate a large number of benefits. Saturday night is of great importance for Latin Americans with champions and former champions involved in transcendental battles in their career. Mexico, Cuba and Venezuela, all showing they are powers in boxing. For the WBA it’s the ultimate representation of world champions.”
