The WBC Boxing World Cup, with the participation of nine federation champions, kicks off next July 16 at a location to be determined in Mexico City reports WBC President Jose Sulaiman. In the headlining bout Mexican WBC Silver lightweight champion Daniel Estrada will face an African opponent and the co-feature Cuban heavyweight Odlanier Solis will go against a European.
“The start date will be July 16 and we just need to define the venue in Mexico City. The tournament will be transmitted worldwide in more than 60 countries and the winner of each division will earn between $400,000 and $500,000,” said Sulaiman. Between six and eight World Cup events are being planned to take place in Mexico in Cancun, Tijuana, and Tepic among others cities.
