WBC Executive Secretary Mauricio Sulaiman has just informed Fightnews.com that the purse bids for the WBC Heavyweight mandatory eliminator between Chris Arreola and Bermane Stiverne, originally to be held tomorrow, has been postponed. They will now be held at next Saturday, September 29th in Las Vegas at the Bellagio Hotel, 11:00 a.m. PST. “The Nightmare” Arreola, 35-2, 30 KOs, will meet “B.Ware” Stiverne, 22-1, 20 KOs, to determine the mandatory challenger to long time WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko. Arreola’s first loss was an unsuccessful title challenge of Klitschko back in 2009 via TKO10, three years to the day of the purse bids, September 29th. Since losing two fights later via MD12 to Tomasz Adamek, Arreola has rattled off seven straight wins, six by KO. Stiverne’s only blemish was a shock TKO4 loss to journeyman Demetrice King back in 2007. He has gone undefeated since, posting a 10-0-1, 8 KOs mark.
The purse bids will precede the star-studded gala event later that evening at the Bellagio- the WBC-Hublot Watch fund raising dinner and auction. Funds raised will go toward a retirement fund for destitute former champions and boxers throughout the world.
