WBC Statement on Kessler

By Boxing Bob Newman

Here is the official statement on Mikkel Kessler’s situation from the WBC as told to me by Mauricio Sulaiman:

“The WBC has received confirmation that current super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler will forced to stop any boxing action for a long period of time. The WBC Board of Governors are currently in the process of ruling the status in which our dear champion will be considered by our organization.

“The WBC has received several communications from various promoters and managers regarding the WBC Super Middleweight championship and will process all the petitions and facts.

“The WBC has been a proud supporter of the Super Six Tournament and is aware of the specific rules and procedures of the tournament and will be in close communication with all parties involved. The WBC is very proud of Mikkel Kessler- a three time champion and wish him a successful recovery. The WBC is also very proud of all the boxers participating in this exemplary tournament.”

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
