WBC World Cup fights also off in Argentina

By Gabriel F. Cordero

Promoter Sampson Lewkowicz has reportedly postponed the October 25 edition of the WBC World Cup to be held in Cordoba, Argentina. The boxing card will go on, but only with local boxers. A new date will be announced for the previously scheduled WBC World Cup fights, which are welterweight Juan Carlos Abregu (16-0, 15 KOs) vs. Devis Caceres (14-2, 9 KOs) and lightweight Fernando Saucedo (50-5-3, 7 KOs) vs. Javier Prieto (23-7, 18 KOs).

This Friday’s card in Mexico City has already been postponed as a sign of respect and solidarity for the tournament’s founder, WBC President Jose Sulaiman, who is still recovering from his recent heart surgery.

For 18 years, Fightnews.com® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
