Notable names lined up for WBC World Cup

wbcworldcupBy Karl Freitag

There are some interesting names currently listed as competing in the WBC World Cup. In the heavyweights there are numerous notables such as Juan Carlos Gomez, Magomed Abdusalmanov, Lucas Browne, Odlanier Solis, Fres Oquendo, Alexander Dimitrenko and Johnathon Banks, to name a few. The welterweight division includes Jojo Dan, Sirimongkol Singwangcha and Joan Guzman, lightweights include Ghislan Maduma and Denis Shafikov, and featherweights have names like Marvin Sonsona, Robinson Castellanos, Claudio Marrero and Ronny Rios, plus Cellestino Caballero standing by as a substitute.

All of the WBC World Cup matches will be held on consecutive Friday nights commencing October 18 with two matches on each promotion. The event will have a length of 24 weeks with 40 World Cup fights, plus the four final dates. All fights will be twelve-rounders. The WBC World Cup Champions in each division will be designated as the official mandatory challengers.

One unusual twist is that there will be no draws. In case of a tie on the scorecards, the WBC and the commission will add all the points won by each fighter on the three different judges’ scorecards with the boxer winning more rounds named winner of the fight. If the results is still a tie, a coin flip will decide the winner. In the event of a coin flip, the winner is committed to give to the loser 20% of his purse in his next fights.
