WBF appoints Gottlieb

At the recently held World Boxing Federation (WBF) convention in Albania, the organization unanimously elected Butch Gottlieb, from the USA, as their commissioner of Women’s Boxing. Butch’s goals are very simple and that is to have credible champions in credible fights: “I believe that titles and title shots must be earned and not handed out just to fill a vacant title,” says Gottlieb, who also owns/operates the website “I want to see more girls from the USA going to Europe to fight for and to defend titles and not have to worry about getting the short end of the scoring because the opponent is the promoter’s fighter. A level playing field is all the girls ask for, and they deserve just that. I will strive to see that happens.”

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
