WBO #8 ranked heavyweight Alex Leapai threw a wrench into plans to match unbeaten WBO #1 Denis Boytsov and WBO world champion Wladimir Klitschko, when Leapai clearly defeated Boytsov last Saturday in Germany. The bout wasn’t an official WBO eliminator, but rather a defense of Leapai’s WBO Asia Pacific heavyweight title. However Boytsov, who hadn’t faced a top ten opponent in nearly four years, was promised the mandatory challenger status with a win. Leapai is now seeking to “leap” past a number of contenders and be declared the mandatory challenger, which the WBO Championship Committee is considering.
Leapai's rep's requested he be made Klitschko's mandatory. Matter under WBO Championship Committee review. They will decide before Tuesday.
