WBO President Francisco “Paco” Valcárcel paid tribute to Central American and Caribbean Games gold medalists, Ángel Acosta, Christian Peguero and Enrique Collazo in recognition of their achievements and as part of WBO program Kids Drug Free. Valcárcel praised the talents of the young boxers and presented them with a plate and a check for $500 for winning their gold medals and to motivate them to continue in sports and away from drugs and other vices.
“You have the potential to go ahead in your careers. Just you have to keep clean, drug free and I’m sure you are going to achieve a lot of honors in the name of Puerto Rico”, Valcárcel said.
In the recent 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico earned 7 gold medals overall. Acosta won gold at 48 kg (106 pounds), Peguero at 69 kg (152 pounds) and Collazo at 75 kg (165 pounds).
Among those on hand with Valcárcel were the Mayor of San Juan Jorge Santini, Representative Jose “Nuno” López, head of the Amateur Boxing Federation of Puerto Rico Jose Luis Vellón, trainers Jose Laureano and Javier Arce, and other sports personalities.
