After twelve years of intense litigation, the World Boxing Organization has obtained a judicial victory over former regional vice-president John Montano (now State Athletic Commissioner of Arizona) and co-defendants former referee Ismael “Wiso” Fernandez and his wife, former WBO executive Virginia Pinto. The Court ruled that the trio fraudulently used the name and the initials of the WBO and its regional organizations in an attempt to divert funds in the amount of $92,000. The Docket Number: KPE1996-0764 that goes back to October of 1996 was awarded to the WBO by San Juan Superior Court Judge Ivonne Diaz on January 14th. She has ordered the co-defendants Montano and the Fernandez couple pay the $92,000 plus the legal interest since 1996 and $50,000 in attorney fees-damages well over $200,000 according to attorney José Cuevas-Segarra.
