Argentinean and WBO Latino junior middleweight champion and former world title challenger Javier “La Bestia” Maciel, will face experienced Colombian contender Emilio “El Tornado” Julio, trying to defend for the fourth time his WBO belt, in the 12-round main event of an exciting night that will take place tonight at the Polideportivo Stadium of Club Atletico Velez Sarsfield, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in a presentation promoted by Argentina Boxing Promotions, of Mario Margossian. Maciel (24-2, 17 KOs), ranked WBO #6, will put in the line the title he conquered on July, 2011, and mostly his position at the WBO ranking, against the experienced Julio (26-9-2, 19 KOs), who has faced highly classified prospects all over the planet. But if he wants to get the world title shot he is crying out loud for -this time in his weight division-, he will have to pass the final step, and make the last statement. At the weigh-in ceremony held at the Buenos Aires Boxing Commission, Maciel weighed 154 pounds. Julio came in 153.8 pounds.

The 28-year-old Maciel, former WBO middleweight challenger, went down to the weight that best suits him after making the distance against world WBO middleweight champ Dmitry Pirog in Russia, on March 2011. He will put in the line the title he won over Brazilian Jonata De Oliveira (KO 1), on June 30th 2011 in Buenos Aires. After that, he defended it over Uruguayan Nestor Faccio (KO 1), won against Argentinean Esteban Ponce (KO 1), and over ex Argentinean and South American champ Wilfredo Vilches (KO 1), all of them with his fearfully left hook to the liver. On July 20th, he scored a ten round unanimous decision over Mateo Veron, and added the Argentinean junior middleweight championship, in Escobar, Buenos Aires. And in his last performance, on November 9th., he gave another example of his power as he punished tough former Latino champ and Brazilian contender Anderson Clayton, before knocking him out in the fourth round -again with a left hook to the liver-, to retain his WBO Latino belt in Caseros, Buenos Aires. But now, who is considered by the majority of the media one of the most important rising boxing stars in the country will have to release all his power if he wants to get to the next level and get a world title opportunity. For that, he has the final step.

The “Tornado” Julio, 33 years old, has fought in rings all over the world. After having defeated most countrymen in the division in Colombia, he experienced fights in the Venezuela, Mexico, Argentina (twice), and Peru. He faced former world champion, Colombian Ricardo Torres, and world highly classified prospects like Venezuelan Charlie Navarro, Argentineans Sebastian Lujan and Hector “El Tigre” Saldivia, Mexican Omar Chavez, and undefeated Peruvian David Zegarra, all of them at their backyard. And after having knocked out his last two opponents in less than four rounds, he is ready for the challenge and shock Maciel’s plans.

On the undercard:

In a 6-round middleweight bout, undefeated prospect Gabriel Ozan (8-0, 2 KOs), from Mendoza, will face Modesto “El Carnicero” Rodriguez (10-7-1, 8 KOs), from Misiones.

In a 6 or 4-round junior welterweight bout, Argentinean lightweight champion and former world title challenger Ana “La Monita” Esteche (7-2-1, 2 KOs), from Buenos Aires, will face Maria “La Mala” Ruiz (4-2-1), from Entre Rios.

In another 4-round welterweight bout, undefeated heavy puncher Carlos Daniel “Cainchi” Aquino (5-0, 5 KOs), from Entre Rios, takes on also undefeated Alfredo “Alfri” Blanco (5-0, 2 KOs), from Buenos Aires.

Finally, in a 4-round lightweight bout, former Argentinean title challenger, Maria Eugenia Lopez (6-5-2), from Salta, will face Maria Eugenia Quiroga (6-7-2), from Rosario.
