After a week of heated words, Canada’s two best super-bantamweights faced off against each other in advance of tomorrow’s 29th annual Shaw Festival at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto. Both posted wins against each other as amateurs and have been on a collision course as pros over the past eight years.
There certainly isn’t any love lost between the pair, “He never got better, never was able to sit down on his punches and never had the guts to pull those power punches,” Gauthier (22-4-1 14KO) told FightNews. “It’s time for him to pay the price, the running is going to go on for a few rounds but at some point he’s going to have to sit down and feel the leather.”
Cave (23-2 8KO) was just as adamant in his assessment of Gauthier, “Who wants to see him fight? Who wants to see him walk around like a robot, throw big punches and get tired after the fifth round? Nobody. He can’t win the big fights. I want Sebastien to call me or email me to say thank you, for me making him relevant again, because I’m the guy who’s relevant, not him.”
