Williams-Botha sanctioning controversy too

In addition the controversy over the number of rounds, there are also questions about the authenticity of the WBA International title that promoters advertised as on the line in Friday’s Sonny Bill Williams-Frans Botha bout. Top Australian WBA official Brad Vocale told FOX Sports “We have a guy who is technically a novice. I really have my doubts. There was certainly no WBA official there….I have my doubts whether the fight was genuinely approved by the WBA because it didn’t meet the criteria.” Vocale also stated that he heard “on good authority” that the championship belt put around Sonny Bill Williams’ waist was not a genuine WBA belt.

WBA Vice President Gilberto J Mendoza tweeted “Reading all about the controversy Williams-Botha. After reviewing facts will make a statement.” Stay tuned…

    Help Support Fightnews.com®

For 18 years, Fightnews.com® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
