Quotes from today’s conference held in Los Angeles for the twelve-round super welterweight clash between Paul “The Punisher” Williams (38-1, 27 KOs) and Kermit “The Killer” Cintron (32-2-1, 28 KOs) to be held Saturday, May 8 at The Home Depot Center Tennis Stadium in Carson, CA.

Paul Williams: “I thank Kermit for giving me the opportunity for this fight. Why? Because everone else pulls out on me. I know that he’s a hard puncher and he’s going to bring it. He’s got a lot to prove. I like this fight because this is going to be a knockdown drag-out fight. This will be a good fight for fans to see.”

Kermit Cintron: “I have nothing bad to say about Paul Williams. He’s a great champion. It will be a great night on May 8th for two great champions. I know that I will be coming into this fight in the best shape ever. This fight will not be like Pacquiao-Clottey. Let the best man win.”

Promoter Dan Goossen added, “Paul Williams has the strongest resume of any fighter in the last two years. I give him straight A’s for the different challenges he has faced. Cintron is tough fighter who goes out there and beats Alfredo Angulo. It was a great win for him and he earned this shot.”

Goossen also announced that Lightweight Martin Honorio will fight in the 12 round co-feature bout against Argenis Mendez (15-1, 9 KO’s). “I am very happy to be fighting in the co-feature bout of a great card,” said Honorio. “I’m ready to fight on May 8th.”

Tickets for “The Weight is Over” card are priced at $200, $100, $50, and $25. Tickets go on sale at the Home Depot Center box office in Carson, CA this Saturday. HBO will televise.

For 18 years, Fightnews.com® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
