Williams-El Harrak fight cancelled

By Francisco Salazar

The scheduled eight round bout between unbeaten super welterweight Julian Williams and Said El-Harrak (10-2-1, 5 KOs) at the Chumash Casino Resort in Santa Ynez, CA is off, according to Gary Shaw Promotions matchmaker John Beninati. The Williams-El Harrak bout was to be a part of a “ShoBox: The New Generation” tripleheader. Since a suitable opponent was not able to be found in time, Showtime will only televise two fights. In the main event, former lightweight world title holder Miguel Acosta will fight unbeaten Art Hovhannisyan in a scheduled 10 round bout. Opening up the telecast will be a scheduled eight round super bantamweight bout between unbeaten Roman Morales (10-0, 6 KOs) and Alexis Santiago (11-2-1, 5 KOs).

Beninati told on Tuesday morning he was informed Monday that the Moroccan-born fighter apparently suffered some sort of knee injury during training.

“I was told Monday by El Harrak’s people that he somehow dislocated his knee during training,” said Beninati. “That’s what they told me.”

Once he was notified of the injury, Beninati attempted to reach out to other fighters, but was unable to find one in time for Williams (9-0-1, 4 KOs).

At least four more non-televised bouts will round out the card.
