Cruiserweight Val Tinajero, from nearby Ogden, is the headliner for the CCC promotions boxing card on Saturday at the Davis Conference Center in Layton, Utah, that also features Ogden heavyweight Billy Zumbrun, as well as the pro debut of Utah amateur star Jesse West. Tinajero, 8-4, meets California’s Geovanni Sarran, 3-5, in the main event. Zumbrun, 25-13-1, is scheduled to fight veteran Travis Fulton, 19-32. Davis County welterweight Eddie Cordova, 3-3, will meet Luis Hernandez, 2-2. Other bouts on the card include top super-welterweight prospect Sukhrab Shidaev, 3-0, — handled by super-trainer Freddie Roach — who meets debuting Robert Hill. Another formerly ranked fighter starting a comeback here is Said Ouali, 26-4, who meets Bryan Abraham, 6-17, in a welterweight bout. The most intriguing bout may be the pro debut of West, who won the Utah and Rocky Mountain Golden Gloves titles and lasted until the quarterfinals of this year’s nationals. In his pro debut, West meets debuting Junaid Farooki. Although he competed as a heavyweight in the amateurs, West plans to fight at the 190-pound cruiserweight limit as a professional. In another bout heavyweights Kevin Howard, 3-9, and Scott Alexander, 7-0, meet.
The comeback of heavyweight Damian “Bolo” Wills, 30-3, against Harold Sconiers, 18-27, was scrapped when Wills pulled out.
