Petchyindee Boxing Promotion recently announced that Pongsaklek Wonjongkam will defend his WBC interim flyweight title against WBC#8 Richard Garcia of the Philippines. This bout will take place at Thara Park in Krabi, Thailand on October 22. Wonjongkam, 32 years old, had successfully kept his WBC 112lb crown for 17 times before losing his title to the Japanese Daisuke Naito. He came back to capture this interim belt on April 24, defeating a high-performance Mexican Julio Cesar Miranda in a unanimous nod. Garcia, 24 years old, is a former PABA 112lb title holder. He has been ranked the WBC top-15 after defeating two-time IBF champion Ratanapol Sor Vorapin on October 3, 2008. Then, he continued his good profile with two consecutive winning in Japan and drew against undefeated Japanese Go Onaga in Tokyo on his last bout. Promoter Virat Vachirarattanawongsi said that the winner of this bout will unify the WBC flyweight title against the winner of Daisuke Naito-Koki Kameda, which will be held on November 29, next February.
