Former world title challenger Z Gorres (28-2-2, 15 KOs) will return to the ring for the first time in 2009. The bout will take place March 14th in a 12 round main event at the Waterfront Hotel in Cebu City for the WBO Oriental bantamweight title. The long time well renown and respected ALA Promotions will promote the event. Instead of facing a local journeyman he will instead take on experienced veteran and former world champion Roberto Leyva. The underrated Gorres lost a disputed split decision to current WBO Flyweight champion Fernando Montiel back in 2007. What looks even more impressive now is his twelve round draw with Vic Darchinyan nearly a year ago in a fight where Gorres knocked Darchinyan down. Since that fight no one has gone the distance or even been competitive on the scorecards in Darchinyan’s subsequent three world title fights.
